A typical cookery class
I’ll start by taking you through some basic health and safety stuff. This will include some guidelines on food safety and preparation and the use of equipment, including knife skills. We’ll then go through the recipes and work out what we do in what order – planning how to cook is a useful skill and saves time.
“Tim was great at getting us both involved with preparing a range of dishes and taught us lots of handy techniques for saving time.” K of Crediton
Then we get stuck in. I’ll guide you whilst you get on and do it. I’ll introduce you to some useful skills and shortcuts and we’ll talk through the background to the recipes and the produce we’ll be using. We’ll also discuss using up what’s in your fridge, what’s left in your veg box, or things you’re not sure how to use. That will save you money and shopping time, and help reduce waste.
You can then enjoy the meal we’ve prepared, or the class can eat it together and comment on the results, and discuss how you can adapt (or even improve) the recipes.
Lessons are normally about 3 hours but can be adapted to fit in with your time constraints.
Cook with the seasons
Learn to make the most of what is in season, and therefore fresher and cheaper. I’ll bring along the best local produce and show you how to cook it. This is a great way to experience local food and to feel a bit more in tune with what Devon has to offer.
Cooking course for men using local produce
Do you need extra confidence working in the kitchen on your own? Want to impress by conjuring up a wonderful meal? Why not get a group together? You’ll all get a chance to try things out, have an enjoyable time and end up sitting down to a cracking meal.
How do you fancy:
- Chicken liver pâté or tomato & goats cheese tart
- Marinaded grilled meat or fish
- Spanish omelette or courgette frittata
- Chocolate or treacle tart?
That’s just a sample, we’ll cook whatever you want (just give me a ring to discuss what you’re after), you’ll then have the recipes and support after the lesson. During the session we’ll cover basic techniques to give you a good foundation for carrying on cooking other dishes at home using a range of ingredients and techniques.
The course runs for three evenings in my kitchen overlooking the lovely mid Devon countryside. Cost: £120 per person, minimum 4/maximum 6. Next course, January 2013; details soon. Contact me if interested.

I can come and cook in your kitchen or I can deliver pre-cooked meals. I’ll prepare dishes using local produce to your specifications, and can cater for most tastes and allergies.
In your own home: If you want me to I can just come and cook you a meal, or bring you a pre-cooked meal for you to enjoy in your own home. Costs from about £10 per person for two courses
“As they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating and this proved to be the case on Saturday with everyone clearing there plates followed by nothing but complementary comments on each of the dishes served.” C, Ottery St Mary
In your Devon holiday cottage: If you are in self-catering accommodation in the Crediton area start your holiday in a relaxing way by leaving your first night’s meal to be prepared and delivered by me, especially good if you’ve had a long drive. And I can do other meals for you, saving you from too much cooking on your holiday.
“Tim cooked us a great meal as well – he kicked us out of the kitchen so we could really relax and everything was so fresh and yummy!” S, Dartmoor holiday cottage
